The Visiting of Malaysia Multimedia University President to Unikom             On Wednesday, Juny 20th 2007, Unikom was visited by the President of Multimedia University President (MMU), Prof. Datuk. Dr. Ghauth Jasmon with his wife, Mrs. Datin Noriah. The President of MMU’s party was Pn. Ruziah that representing Dr. Tan Sing Leng, and Mrs Ida Badariah as Officer for International Student Recruitment Indonesia Region, MMU. “This friendship visit is a return visit to concretize the cooperation between MMU and Unikom that has signed in to MOU, in year 2006” said Mrs. Aelina Surya (Vice Rector for Student Affairs and Cooperation of Unikom) in her speech. The Rector of Unikom, Dr. Ir. Eddy Soeryanto Soegoto, explained that visited by the President of MMU, more placing Unikom steps to go forward in realizing the university bases on ICT (Information Communication Technology). “To work out the closer cooperative with MMU which have become one of the foremost university in Malaysia that have special quality in engineering field and robotic field, exceptionally beneficial to Unikom, because Unikom, is also based on ICT” Rector of Unikom said. “And also in robotic field where Unikom have won National Robotic Contest in Surabaya” The Rector continued. Prof. Datuk. Dr. Ghauth Jasmon was expressing his happiness in visiting Unikom. “ I feel really at home. Be in Unikom just like be in MMU” he said. In his speech, Prof. Datuk Dr. Ghauth explain about MMU strategy to be the foremost university in Malaysia. Where, in the beginning, Mr. Mahathir Muhammad (ex.Prime Minister of Malaysia) wanted all the university in Malaysia bases on ICT. Dr. Ghauth said that there’s a big different between private university in Malaysia and private university in Indonesia. Where private university in Malaysia have no problem in funding. Because the government help them in funding. But in Indonesia, private university have to funding them selves. In his opinion, becoming the foremost university, private university needs good people in academic and curriculum. It can help students become a good students too. “There is many lab that MMU have. This lab is given by industry. So we don’t spend much money for labs. Its only happen when university have an excellent people. The next target for MMU is to create International Community, so the students can do the activity they used to do in their origin country in MMU. It can make MMU more coloured by students all over the world. “MMU have many cooperation with other country. Sometimes we have to make closer cooperation with a country that we don’t always hear everytime” Because we want to develop and spread knowledge that we have in many countries” he continued. One of the participants wanted to know about the policy that MMU made for the teacher. MMU had a program in knowing the quality of their teacher. Which are, they have had arrange the polling for the students every semester. There’s a program that teacher have to follow if they can not reach standardization that MMU determined. MMU also offered scholarship for Indonesian student. “we can give you free dormitory, pocket money, ext.., and it always opened for Indonesian student, but in one condition, if they’re excellent..” he convince.
