On June 14-15 2008, the attention of all Indonesian turned to UI Hall for The Most Prestigious Competition in Education World in Indonesia, Indonesia Smart Robot Competition 2008 and Indonesia Robot Competition 2008. The competition was opened by the Rector of Indonesia University, Prof. Dr. der.Soz Gumilar Rusliwa Somantri and attended by Minister of Communication and Information, Prof. Ir. Muhammad Nuh, Minister of Education, Prof. Dr. Bambang Sudibyo and General Director of DIKTI, Dr. Fasli Jalal. It was a very lively competition with a very lively supporters coming for their team.
The Indonesian Smart Robot Competiton was followed by 37 teams from the government universities and private universities represent 4 regionals in Indonesia : Regional I (Sumatera), Regional II (DKI, West Java and Banten), Regional III ( Mid Java and Kalimantan), and Regional IV (East Java, Sulawesi and East Indonesia). The Best of The Best KRCI in this competition was : Wheeled Robot : 1st Champion is DU 114-V8 from UNIKOM, 2nd is TENSAI from PENS-ITS. Expert Swarm Robot : 1st Champion is DU-102 from UNIKOM. 1st Champion for The Best Algorithm Robot is DU-102 from UNIKOM. Legged Robot : 1st Champion is RASYID from Poltek Caltex Riau, 2nd is al_FajRi from ITS Surabaya. And for The Expert Single Robot: 1st Champion is gho-zie from PEN-ITS Surabaya, 2nd is dot.B from Politeknik Negeri Bandung. That results make UNIKOM Robot Team Become The Best Of The Best KRCI 2008 For Winning All Categories in Regional-II DKI, West Java-Banten (1st Champion in 5 categories) and 3 Categories in National KRCI 2008 (1st champion in 3 categories).
Dengan hasil tersebut maka menurut Mendiknas, Prof. Dr. Bambang Sudibyo, Tim Robotika UNIKOM akan dikirim ke Pertandingan Tingkat Dunia di Trinity College, Hartford, Connecticut, Amerika Serikat tahun 2009 untuk mengikuti Intelligent Fire Fighting Robot Contest.
