September 3, 2008   New Students and Dies Natalie UNIKOM 2008/2009                         On Monday (02/09), UNIKOM held the Opening of New Student Acceptance (PMB) Academic Year 2008/2009. The event taking place at Sasana Budaya Ganesha was officially opened by The Rector of UNIKOM, Dr. Ir. Eddy Soeryanto Soegoto and was attended by UNIKOM’s academic. The Chairman of New Student Acceptance, Prof. Dr. Moh. Tadjuddin M.A. said that the number of new students in UNIKOM is 3092. This growth number occurs due to the increasing of society’s enthusiasm to partake in the courses concentrated in the computer-based sciences.  Supported by the increasingly qualified lecturer, UNIKOM now gains more achievement in the world of education and technology by achieving various national levels of achievements. In 2008, UNIKOM Robotics Team made it to surpass 55 robotics teams from other state and private universities in DKI-JABAR-BANTEN and be the Best Robot Team for its five robots made it to win 5 first champions of Kontes Robot Cerdas Indonesia (KRCI) 2008 (Indonesia Smart Robot Contest). UNIKOM also achieved the award of Best of the Best of Indonesia Smart Robot Contest (KRCI) among Higher Educations in Indonesia in 2008 after nationally winning 3 national first champions. In this year, in ICT Award participated by 80 state and private universities in Indonesia,15 universities made it to go through the final stage. After being judged through Visitation, 5 best universities in the field of ICT; UNIKOM, UI, UGM and 2 other universities are eventually elected. In the night of Bestowal of Menkominfo, UNIKOM was elected as 2nd National Winner of PKMTthrough the work of: “Perancangan Sistem Penghitung Kwin Terpusat Berbasis PC dan Microcontroller” (PC and Microcontroller based System Designing of Centered Kwin Counter). The trust from society will be maintained by improving the quality of education through the on-time college, up-to-date lecturing material, innovations on the subjects taught, objective judgment, awareness on the students’ inputs, provide proper administrational services, construct education facilities and infrastructures, as well as keep performing self correction to a better work performance. In this 2008 of New Student Acceptance, the youngest student is Muhammad Zein Dedy Latuconsina aged 14 years, 10 months, and 27 days from Governmental Science Department S1. The other young students are: Rudy Aryanto aged 16 years, 2 months, and 7 days from Accountancy Department S1, Muhammad Iqbal Matdoan aged 16 years, 3 months, and 14 days from Law Department S1, Khoirul Umam Mahmudy aged 16 years, 6 months, and 7 days from Informatics Management Department S1, Saifudin Latuconsina aged 16 years, 8 months, and 6 days from Computer Engineering Department S1, and Rian Andini Nurhasanah aged 16 years, 9 months, and 23 days from English Department S1. Whereas the oldest students are …. Each aged 44 years, 42 years, and 39 years. Both youngest students and oldest students show the existence of the spirit to reach the achievements in self-development for their futures. In his opening speech, the Rector of UNIKOM, Dr. Ir. Eddy Soeryanto Soegoto stated that to be a healthy higher education that can contribute efforts to the nation competitive, student’s ability as the nation’s asset needs to be graded up through: theirs intellectual ability, emotional equilibrium, and spiritual devotion to be the citizens with responsible, making students as moral strength in creating democratic welfare society, basic fair on public participation, as well as improving the facilities and infrastructures to support student’s self-development and actualization regarding their spiritual and physical aspects. The Rector added that a student should put his concerns on three factors: science reasoning, interest, passion, and social care as well. Those three factors must be based on 10 attributes of soft skills consisting: critical thinking, spirit of learning, enthusiasm, communication ability, reliably creative, self-motivated, committed, initiative, and integrated personality. UNIKOM provides information technology academic educational system and academic community in digital campus in which the processes of lecturing and administering are integrated in one digital information system that is fast, easy, and cheap in its access, at any time, at any where. The various digital facilities for students are wireless network (hotspot), the accesses of Proquest Computing Database and Proquest Business Digital Database located in UNIKOM’s Library, free homepage and email, Student Identity Card (KTM), the smart card, functioning as an ATM to ease the auto debit process for the college fee payment. Closing the event, the Rector conveyed his message for the new students to perform well in theirs college life and be the pride of the family, society, and nation as well by achieving higher academic achievements.
