The students of Indonesia Computer University show again their existence as a part of Smart Community Campus of the Champions when their innovative masterpiece was chosen as The Best Innovation and Best Applied Technology in Design Competition of Rattan Product which was held by The Government of West Java Province year 2010.
Product from rattan material as one of the asset and original identity of West Java Province is a product that needs to be preserved and developed. There are several things that should be concerned to make rattan product able to compete in international event, one of them is the product design. Related with that, the government of West Java Province, Industrial and Trade Office cooperating with 100% Cinta Indonesia, INDAG, and ITB held Design Competition of Rattan Product, West Java 2010 from September 22nd to December 11th , 2010. The competition was expected to improve idea in production and design variety in the future. Besides of that, it was expected to become opening way for the rise of rattan product in facing modernization era so that they are able to compete in international industry.
In Design Competition of Rattan Product West Java 2010, there are several rules which should be completed by including the concept design based on rattan and referring to global market. The Design forms that are competed are seat facilitation (stool, sofa, chair) and box lamp.
The competition which was followed by 75 participants, who came from industrial sector and universities, brought the topic "New Spirit of Rattan Product". It has five criteria of competition: Ergonomic, Applied Technology, Environment, Inovation, Design, and Marketable. Based on selection result, the committee of competition has determine 24 finalist nominees, 5 among them are UNIKOM's students.
On the eve of the winner announcement that was held on December 2010 in New Majestic Braga Building, Bandung, 2 works of UNIKOM's students have been chosen as the winner:: Canal Stool, work of Novita Dwiyanti, was chosen as the Best Inovation, and Cobra Rattan Chair, work of Fadhilah Nurahman Siddik, was chosen as the Best Applied Technology. For this achievement, both of them accepted certificate and reward, each of them Rp.5.000.000,- that was given directly by the Governor of East Java, H. Ahmad Heriawan. Rector of UNIKOM, Dr. Ir. Eddy Soeryanto Soegoto gave appreciation and reward for achievement of two students of Unikom's interior design department by giving scholarship each Rp. 5 million.
Topic that was brought by Canal Stool is natural impression flows with natural dynamic style and also with concept that adopting boat form being rowed together with brown color that gives positive impression, stable, warm, and close with nature. While for Cobra Rattan Chair, the topic was inspired by cobra as the cure with form concept adopting from cobra form that feel treated by its enemy with modern style. Besides of that, Cobra Rattan Chair still show aesthetical impression by adding red bubble on the sideline of rattan chair. |
