After its success as Best of the Best team in the Indonesia Smart Robot Contest 2008, by gaining 3 different national champions and 5 regional champions, UNIKOM engraves another achievement after being elected as Special Mention Best of The Best Smart Campus of Indonesia ICT Award 2008. As the University winning Indonesia ICT award 2007 and representing Indonesia in Asia Pacific ICT award 2007 in Singapore, UNIKOM proves its quality as Smart Community Campus of the Champions.
Indonesia ICT Awards (INAICTA) as the most prestigious event in the field of Information and Technology, in 2008, had been participated by approximately 80 universities from both state and private universities in Indonesia. From this number, 15 universities made it to go through the Final stage to be judged in the Site Visit by The Jury, visiting the 15 universities to score in a more detail way about the technology implementation.
As the result, 5 universities were elected as the Nominees University of Smart Campus Indonesia ICT Award 2008 for the Content and Application Categories, they were UNIKOM, UI, UGM, BINUS, and GUNADHARMA.
In the jury's opinion, Romi Satria Wahono, "Over all, the universities in Java Island still show their dominations in this Indonesia ICT Award 2008, particularly in the categories of ICT utilization for education called Smart Campus. We can generally say that the 15 universities are quite mature in their internet connectivity category. In the category of Open Publication or Open Content for scientific publication, proceeding, thesis, and dissertation, the jury records that many private universities like UNIKOM open their publication for free. The spirit and militancy in developing the content and application in an independent way are many applied in Private Universities". UNIKOM Bandung supported by the young energetic lecturers works enthusiastically and even has high sense of social pieties by providing online learning that can be accessed by every body wherever they are. UNIKOM, UI, and IPB give the lecturers and students opportunity to use the campus server to write or make blog.
"Integrity and interoperability are such common problems found in many built application in Universities (e-Academic, e-Learning, e-Career, etc). To be honest, they may be only UNIKOM, UI, Gunadharma, UGM, and BINUS that are capable in the matters of application. In particular, I would like to give a special appreciation to UNIKOM Bandung, Amikom Yogyakarta, and Poltek Batam that still struggle to develop the application independently though they have only limited budget".
"State Universities and big universities may sometimes need to take a comparative study to Private universities that keep struggling to develop their campus creativity in spite of their limited budget. They may even have social pieties like online learning as the remarks of UNIKOM" the jury said, Romi Satria Wahono. |
