Welcoming The Hero of Our Nation, Indonesia’s Robotic Teams Win Gold Medal in Robogames 2010, USA

Indonesia’s Robotic Teams from Indonesia Computer University (UNIKOM) Bandung is still being a winner in “Robogames 2010” that held in San Mateo County Event Center, United States of America Saturday-Sunday (April 24-25). The team - Rodi Hartono and Yusrila Yeka Kerlooza - success in achieving Gold Medal for category Open Fire Fighting Autonomous Robot through action of Robot DU 114. This robot is also determined as the Best Performance Robot in this International Class Robot Competition.

In the beginning “Robogames 2010” competition was named “ROBOlympic”. This competition is participated by 17 countries, include: USA, Mexico, England, Brazil, Lithuania, India, Spain, Canada, Indonesia, South Korea, Palestine, Taiwan, Egypt, Japan, Latvia, Columbia, and Hongkong. The competition was held in 59 events with 181 teams, 508 robots, and 667 engineers from around of the world. The competition is also watched by at least 3.000 persons and is documented by international media.

Indonesia’s Robotic Teams in the competition is represented by Unikom’s Robotic Teams (Indonesia Computer University) Bandung. “In the competition, we did not represent Unikom’s name but represented Indonesia” Unikom’s Rector, Dr. Ir. Eddy Soeryanto Soegoto said in the press conference that was held a day after the winning, Monday (4/26).

According to Eddy, the winning, is the second winning. After last year (2009), Unikom’s Robotic Team also successes in achieving gold medal in the same event. “So, this is the success of Unikom’s Robotic Teams in keeping the winner predicate that has been achieved in last year” Eddy emphasized.

In the last 2009, UNIKOM’s Robotic Team was success in achieving gold medal after the team beat “the continually 4 years winner” from The United States of America.

At the same time, as published by the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in San Francisco, Consul Asianto Sinambela said that the achievement of Indonesia team was amazing. This team can beat the participants from various countries; even most of teams are coming from USA, which the members are the researcher from Silicon Valley.

In the release was explained that Indonesia’s Team competes in Fire Extinguisher category. In that category, the competing robots should be able to extinguish the candle that is randomly placed at the competition labyrinth as fast as possible.

In the competition, Indonesia Robotic Team is represented by robot in the form of tank, 6 legged robot, and 8 legged robot. The ability of Indonesia’s Robotic Team in passing up stairs, extinguishes fire by the water spray, and back to the previous place got the best score from the judge.

When arrived in Indonesia, Wednesday (4/28), The robotic team was welcoming by the Rector, Vice Rectors, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science and around 30 UNIKOM’s students in Soekarno Hatta airport. The representative of the Directorate of Higher Education - Ir. Dharnita Chandra, M.Si -. and the Department of Foreign Affairs also present to give welcoming flower.

At Thursday (4/29), Unikom’s Robotic Team, Yusrila Yeka kerloza and Rodi Hartono shared their experience in the Robogames 2010 event to the press. Yusrilla said that to develop robot technology in Indonesia is required closer cooperation between government and private sector, especially for both of research fund supply and miniature of robot application in the university.
